Meet The Team!


Erica Block

Erica Block is a sports journalist with a particular interest in covering baseball and representations of race and gender in sports media. A native of New York City, Erica is a graduate of Colby College in Waterville, ME, where she competed in logging sports and graduated in 2010 with a degree in American studies and creative writing. Before moving to Phoenix for graduate school, Erica worked in the children’s publishing industry and as a staff writer for several tech startups. Along with catching a Mike Trout home run ball (and throwing it back), the reporting she did on Arizona Fall League for this project is one of her favorite baseball experiences.


Mikala Morris

A native of Tempe, Arizona, Mikala has returned home to study public relations at the Walter Cronkite school, where she will receive her Master of Mass Communication. She graduated from Colorado State University – Pueblo in 2018, where she received bachelor’s degrees in mass communications, political science and Spanish. Mikala competed as a collegiate volleyball player from 2013-2018. She also worked as a Spanish tutor for two university departments and interned for the Pueblo County Economic Development department and CSU-Pueblo’s Office of External Affairs. She is a competitive board game lover who plans to travel to Spain one day to practice her Spanish.


Alex Simon

Alex is a sports journalist who focuses primarily on baseball and collegiate sports. Born and raised in the Bay Area, Alex has covered baseball for years, including as an intern for Baseball America and as an associate reporter for MLB.com. Alex attended Elon University in North Carolina, where he was the sports editor at the local newspaper and won multiple national awards. Alex plans on learning how to speak Spanish soon . . . which is great timing now that this project is over.
