The city of Chandler is at the tail end of developing Overstreet, a 77,000 square foot complex with a movie theater, a fitness center, restaurants, and office space on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard. It is scheduled to open in December of this year. Additionally, \u00a0the empty lot across from City Hall will be transformed into \u201cNew Square Chandler,\u201d an area with a Hilton Garden Inn, 8,700 square feet for restaurants, and office space, by fall 2019.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\u201c\u2018Pardon our dust\u2019 is kind of our statement right now,\u201d Fontes said.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nChandler\u2019s constant construction has taken its toll. And the revitalization efforts in downtown Chandler\u2014building parking lots, acquiring property, upgrading water and sewer lines\u2014certainly aren\u2019t flashy. But they have helped lay the groundwork for current and future development.<em>(<\/em>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAnd Chandler\u2019s revitalization efforts have paid off. (Photo by Krystiana Cornella)<\/h6>\r\n<\/figcaption><\/figure>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nAdditionally, sales tax revenue for fiscal year 2017\/2018<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chandleraz.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/Budget_MthlyReport_June2018.pdf\"> has increased<\/a> by 6.5 percent, or $7.5 million, from the year prior, according to the city\u2019s budget reports.\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nChandler\u2019s downtown still has room for improvement. Moyers said that the city would like to see some specific retail stores: an urban grocer, an art store, little boutiques, a flower shop or gift store, \u201csomething if you\u2019re on a wait to get into a restaurant, that you could meander in and out of retail.\u201d\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\nBut even now, \u201cChandler has a very unique and beautiful downtown,\u201d she said. \u201cI think it still has a very small downtown feel that you can meander underneath the colonnade. While many local shops close early, SanTan is open until 11 p.m. on weekdays and 1 a.m. on weekends, breathing nightlife into the heart of historic downtown. The city of Chandler is at the tail end of developing Overstreet, a 77,000 square foot complex with a movie theater, a fitness center, restaurants, and office space on the southwest corner of Arizona Avenue and Chandler Boulevard. It is scheduled to open in December of this year. Additionally, \u00a0the empty lot across from City Hall will be transformed into \u201cNew Square Chandler,\u201d an area with a Hilton Garden Inn, 8,700 square feet for restaurants, and office space, by fall 2019.\r\n\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n\u201c\u2018Pardon our dust\u2019 is kind of our statement right now,\u201d Fontes said.\r\n\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\nChandler\u2019s constant construction has taken its toll. And the revitalization efforts in downtown Chandler\u2014building parking lots, acquiring property, upgrading water and sewer lines\u2014certainly aren\u2019t flashy. But they have helped lay the groundwork for current and future development.<em>(<\/em>\r\n\r\n<!-- \/wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\n<!-- wp:paragraph -->\r\n\r\nAnd Chandler\u2019s revitalization efforts have paid off.
