Stalking is an underreported crime and story. <\/span><\/p>\n

Salt<\/span> River Valley Stalking is a Maricopa County-based project by Anikka Abbott, Megan Boyanton, Grayson Schmidt and Nathan Hiatt to educate the public on stalking signs and solutions while promoting awareness about the crime.<\/p>\n

During the course of seven weeks, team research included in-depth interviews with local police, campus police at Arizona State University, advocacy group representatives, victim advocates, professionals in psychology and survivors of stalking.<\/p>\n

A major goal for the project was to comprehend the process behind the crime of stalking, including the legal and psychological resources available to victims in the Phoenix metropolitan area.<\/p>\n

I am a survivor of stalking. My freshman year of undergrad, I was stalked by someone from my hometown. Ultimately, my life was threatened and after nine terrifying months, I went through the court process to obtain an order of protection. <\/em><\/p>\n

Part of the inspiration behind this project was the lack of information I encountered on stalking when I was going through that experience. As a student, I had never been educated on domestic violence or stalking. I didn’t even recognize that it was stalking when it first started— I just associated it as an overzealous infatuated boy.<\/em><\/p>\n

Online, there wasn’t much out there on stalking at the time, aside from news stories about extreme cases of celebrity stalking. We wanted to delve into what stalking looks like when it happens in your own neighborhood.<\/em><\/p>\n
