Finding a solution: What to do when you have a stalker

By Anikka Abbott and Nathan Hiatt

Here are some things victims in a stalking situation should do:

1. Keep a log of all communication and incidents with the stalker, including anything your stalker sends you, such as letters or gifts, or taking screenshots of any social media messages.

2. Call the police and file a report, giving them a copy of your log of evidence. Detectives might meet with you to ask more questions about your experience.

3. If necessary, go to your local courthouse to file a restraining order or to press charges.

Tip: It might be easier to reach out to a domestic violence shelter or university campus victim advocate for guidance, especially if you wish to file for a restraining order or press charges. They will provide guidance and support through the process.
