The Journey Katie Mabry uses her own experience to educate the public on both stalking and domestic violence. Katie Mabry is newly engaged after surviving a nine-year abusive relationship with her ex-husband. Mabry said her ex-husband's controlling behavior was subtle at first, so she didn't think it was an issue. Her ex-husband dictated what she should wear, and put tracking apps on her phone. Her ex-husband would show up at her work, preventing her from doing her job. Doreen Nicholas is a DV response manager who helps run the speakers bureau at the ACESDV. Nicholas has scheduled Mabry to speak and share her story at multiple DV panels and events. Nicholas told students to listen carefully because this was probably most important class of their semester. Students listen to Mabry describe her domestic violence and stalking experience in a social work class at ASU. On Feb. 5, 2012, Mabry fought her husband off for six hours. He told her to pray because she was "going to die." Despite her continuing PTSD, Mabry said she chooses to speak because she wants to break the stigma of stalking and domestic violence survival.
